As a co-owner of Southern Dogwood Structural Design, Maria Arguelles brings a blend of advanced education, real-world experience, and a passion for structural engineering to every project.  She began her career working in Miami, FL in 2016 gaining experience with high velocity hurricane zones. 

Maria graduated from the University of Miami in 2016 and 2017 with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Structural Engineering. During college, she interned at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, where she gained valuable hands-on experience that fueled her passion for design. 

Originally from Tifton, Georgia, Maria now lives in Marietta with her partner, Andrew, and their dog, Luna. When she’s not working, Maria enjoys live music and backpacking in the backcountry.

Richard brings a diverse and hands-on approach to his role as co-owner of Southern Dogwood Structural Design. He began a career in structural engineering in January 2019. Prior to training in this field, Richard earned a welding certificate from The State of Florida as well as an ASME 6G certification and worked as a professional welder on commercial and industrial sites around the U.S.

Richard’s passion for structural engineering led him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from Kennesaw State University, graduating in 2018. This educational foundation, combined with his prior hands-on experience, allows Richard to approach every project with a unique perspective 

Richard is originally from Alachua, Florida and currently lives in Woodstock with his wife, son, and daughter.
